ALLIANCE, Neb. — The Alliance City Council candidate debate, held Thursday, Oct. 24, drew a large gathering of community members to the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center.
Candidates for the council’s two-year term, for which only one seat will be elected on Nov. 5, included Chuck Frisch and Brenda Bishop. Two additional candidates, Jay Weisgerber and Russell Saito, were absent from the debate due to other obligations. Weisgerber was unavailable because of his bus-driving duties, while Saito was in North Carolina aiding in hurricane clean-up efforts.
Each candidate answered questions from a set list as well as questions submitted by audience members in attendance.
Candidates vying for the four-year council term also participated, with two seats to be filled in the upcoming election. Those attending included Randy Hitchcock, Tamara Wood, and Travis Turman. Incumbent John McGehhey was absent due to family obligations.
Each participant had three minutes for an opening statement, followed by three minutes to respond to each question. The debate wrapped up just before 5 p.m.
