SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Valley Alternative Learning Transitioning School (VALTS), a program of Educational Service Unit 13, will host the 2026 VALTS for Veterans Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Noon at 18th Street Plaza in Scottsbluff.
The student-led event gives VALTS students the opportunity to plan and lead a community fundraiser that supports local veterans while building real-world skills.
“This is an opportunity for students to lead something meaningful,” said Derek Peil, PhD, Alternative Education Director. “They are giving back to those who have served our country while developing skills that will benefit them well beyond the classroom.”
Students are responsible for key components of the event, including marketing, sponsorship outreach, logistics, finance and ceremony planning.
The fundraiser features a golf ball drop, where participants may purchase numbered golf balls for $10 each. At noon, buckets of golf balls will be dropped over a designated hole and the three balls closest to the hole will win prizes:
-First Place: $200 Visa gift card
-Second Place: $100 gift card
-Third Place: $50 gift card
Golf balls can be purchased by calling 308-635-0206 or by going to this website https://square.link/u/hB6mcLxU.
The event will begin with a brief ceremony honoring veterans, with invited participation from the Scottsbluff/Gering Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), community leaders and local officials.
Proceeds will benefit the local VFW and the VALTS student scholarship and activities fund, with all donations being tax-exempt through the ESU 13 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and organizations interested in supporting the event, with multiple levels available.
VALTS plans to make VALTS for Veterans an annual event, rotating the benefiting veteran-focused organization each year to strengthen community partnerships and expand student learning.
Community members interested in participating, sponsoring, or learning more are encouraged to contact VALTS or the ESU 13 Foundation. Media outlets interested in covering the event or connecting with students and staff are encouraged to contact Mary Brumage at ESU 13 to coordinate coverage and interviews.
