Multiple Panhandle fire departments battling rural fire southwest of Alliance

On Tuesday, June 18 multiple panhandle fire departments are assisting with a large rural fire southwest of Alliance in a southwestern corner of Box Butte and Morrill Counties. 

As of 2:45 p.m. Alliance, Hemingford, Bridgeport, Bayard, Gering, Minatare and Heart of the Hills volunteer fire departments are assisting with the rural fire. 

"We have an aerial applicator assisting with water drops," Alliance Volunteer Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker said. "We also have the State's Wildland Incident Response Assistance Team enroute to assist."

Region 21 and 23 Emergency Management, and Nebraska Emergency Management Agency are also involved in helping with the fire.
