The Chadron Police Department would like to thank everyone for their comments and perspectives on the Flock Automated License Plate Reading system, at the Chadron City Council meeting held on August 3, 2026. During the meeting several concerns and view-points were discussed, all of which are being evaluated to ensure the Chadron Police Department is using the Flock System in the most responsible way to keep our community safe and assist in the investigation of criminal offenses.
One area of public concern was outside agencies having access to the data the cameras collect and the Chadron Police Department having no control over the outside agency’s reasons for searching or use of the data. The Chadron Police Department works closely with allied agencies across Nebraska and has great working relationships with them, but understands the public’s questions and concern. As a result, the Chadron Police Department has decided to stop sharing any data with outside law enforcement agencies at this time. The agencies we did share with have been notified of the change and were very understanding of the reasoning for the change.
We again want to thank everyone for expressing their views and opinions, along with asking questions. Your views and opinions matter to the members of the Chadron Police Department and the City of Chadron. The evaluation of the Chadron Police Department’s use of Flock Safety ALPR systems will continue.
