George W. Bremer, 74, of Hemingford, NE passed away on August 15, 2023 at his home after fighting an arduous battle with pancreatic cancer.
George was born November 11, 1949 to Joseph and Josephine Bremer. He was raised in Hemingford where he graduated from high school in 1967. Continuing his education at Chadron State College for one year, George then moved on to West Nebraska VOCTech in Sidney where he obtained an associate degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
George enlisted in the Navy and served from 1971 to 1975 as a 2nd engineer with P-3 Orion Anti-submarine Patrol Aircraft home ported in Brunswick, Maine. At the end of his service, he was classified as Petty Officer, 2nd class.
Following his service George returned to the family farm and subsequently changed careers. He returned to Chadron State College where he obtained a criminal justice degree. George then completed the twelve-month certification program at the academy in Grand Island to become a certified Law Enforcement Officer. He spent 22 years in law enforcement, three at the Hemingford Police Department, sixteen years at the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff and three years as the Police Chief in Hemingford after which he retired in 2015.
He married his loving wife, Marcia, at Deadwood, South Dakota in 1999 and gained a stepdaughter, Kellie Hanson.
George was a proud and loving father, step-father and grandpa to all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren including, his son, Andy Bremer, his wife Courtney and their children, Joseph and Charlotte, his stepdaughter, Kellie Hanson, her husband Chris Hanson, and their children Hailey Johnson, her husband Joseph and their children Charlotte and Gideon; Aaron Hanson, his wife Mikayla and their daughter Amara and Alex Hanson
He was loved and is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Hemingford; his son and stepdaughter and their families, his sister, Connie Dismer of Moline, Illinois; nephew Wayne Dismer, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth and their two boys, Jackson and Connor; great nephew Karma and his son Lazarus; great nieces Rowan and Autumn and her son Reed, as well as numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine Bremer, brother-in-law Wayne Dismer, niece Christy Eubank and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His son Matthew tragically preceded him in death on October 10, 1989.
His favorite pastime was to hop on the Harley with Marcia. They had several rides north, south, east, and west. Rides with friends and families were the best. The longest and most enjoyable ride was through Glacier National Park, through Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. Winding through the Black Hills was always a beautiful ride.
A private family service will be at the Hemingford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bobcats Beating Cancer, Festival of Hope, and Jane’s Closet.
