Chadron, Neb — The Soldier Creek Campground near the Soldier Creek Wilderness will reopen on Thursday, June 2, at 8 a.m. following a temporary closure due to the South Fork Fire. While four individual campsites still require removal of downed timber, other sites are open and available for public use. Previously provided amenities, including horse corrals and the latrine, were successfully protected from the fire.
Visitors are welcome to return to enjoy the surrounding wilderness for the holiday weekend; however, please be aware that hazards may still be present due to fire-related damage. Anyone recreating in the Soldier Creek Wilderness does so at their own risk. The termination of the order is available on the Nebraska National Forest’s website.
