CSC Music sets performance schedule for the spring

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Music department has announced events for the spring 2024 semester. All concerts and recitals are free and open to the public.

Trans-Nebraska Players will perform a concert titled Storytime! Friday at 4 p.m. in the Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium. Members of the group performing at this impromptu event are Franziska Brech, James Margetts, and Clark Potter.

Brech, a native of Munich, Germany, teaches flute, chamber music and German at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Since 2010 she has been a contributing author for the German flute magazine Flöte aktuell. In April of 2021, MVG Munich published her German translation of Marya Hornbacher’s memoir Madness.

Margetts, piano, is Dean of Essential Studies and the School of Liberal Arts at Chadron State College. Before this appointment, Dr. Margetts taught piano and music theory at Chadron State. He holds degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Cincinnati.

Potter is a Professor of Viola at the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he also teaches conducting and performance practice. He is principal viola of the Lincoln Symphony and conducts the Lincoln Youth Symphony.

The High Plains Band and Choir Festival's final concert will be Feb. 6, at 5 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium. The CSC Music faculty will perform a recital Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. in the Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium.

A guest recital March 12, will feature Dr. Brooks Hafey, piano, and Sonja Kraus, cello, professor at the University of South Dakota, at 5 p.m. in the Sandoz Center Atrium.A concert with the CSC Wind Symphony and Community band combined with the Chadron High School band is March 19, at 7 pm in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium.

Outstanding students will perform in the Honors Recital March 24, at 3 p.m. in the Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium. The Wind Symphony and Community Band will perform in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium April 5, at 7 p.m.

Hafey will perform a piano recital April 9, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium. The CSC Percussion Ensemble will perform in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium April 12, at 5:15 p.m.

On April 13, the CSC Concert Choir and Community Choir will perform at 3 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium. The CSC Jazz Ensembles will perform in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium April 15, at 7 p.m.

Blake McGee, clarinet, professor at the University of Wyoming, and Hafey, piano, will perform April 21, at 3 p.m. in the Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium.

On April 26, the CSC Guitar Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. in the Math Science COIL Planetarium.

The semester will conclude with the New Music Concert by CSC and Chadron composers April 28, at 5 p.m. in the Memorial Hall’s Auditorium.
