Leonard Raymond Hartman (1948 - 2024)

Leonard Raymond Hartman, 76, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO after a brief illness.

He was born in Seneca Falls, New York on October 5, 1948, to the late Betty Jane Scott Hartman (Decker) and Leonard Ray Hartman and was the oldest of four children. He lost his father in 1961. Leonard was a 1966 graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, NY. 

Leonard studied Mathematics at Auburn Community College, Auburn, NY and at Hiram Scott College, in Scottsbluff, NE. That is where he met his sweetheart Linda Ann Viola in 1971. They were married for over 50 years and made their home in Alliance, Nebraska. Leonard earned his Master’s degree at Chadron State College in 1979, and earned an Administrative Endorsement 7-12, High School in 1983 from University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Leonard taught high school math and developed the Computer Science Program “Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)” at Alliance Public Schools. Leonard was committed to his craft for over 42 years and “never worked a day in his life”. He was devoted to his students and was a referee for basketball. Leonard and Linda also supported the students and school by keeping the books for Volleyball and both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams for over 20 years.  They were inducted into the A Club in 2023, and Leonard was very proud of this honor.  With Linda, he was active in the Nebraska State Education Association.  It was their mutual desire to establish a scholarship program for Alliance school students.

Each summer he and Linda would travel back to Upstate New York and Long Island to visit family. Leonard enjoyed italian food, fishing, playing golf and their many cats. He was known for his generosity, quick wit, clever sense of humor and his kind and sincere demeanor.

Leonard is survived by his brother Paul C. (Theresa) Hartman of Richardson, TX, sister Ellen H. Bailey, brother-in-law William “Bill” Foulkrod, nephews Todd Foulkrod, all of Lucama, NC, Scott Bailey of Waterloo, NY, nieces Kim Foulkrod (Randy) Moore of Lucama, NC, Lisa Bailey (Patrick) Shell of Seneca Falls, NY, Rachel Hartman and Cassandra Hartman, both of Columbus, OH, several great nieces and nephews. Special friends Jim and Jeryl Hawk and family, Bill Longacre, Don and Julie Sheldon, and many other friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, sister, Nancy D. Foulkrod, and nephew, Eric J. Hartman.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
