The Dawes County Board of Commissioners has enacted an immediate ban on all open burning throughout Dawes County, Nebraska. This action follows recommendations from Chadron Fire Chief Brandon Martens and Crawford Fire Chief Brian Prosser, citing severe drought conditions that make open burning unsafe and difficult to control.
The ban will remain in effect until weather and environmental conditions improve, at which time it may be lifted jointly by the Commissioners and local Fire Chiefs.
