On Thursday, July 15, 2021, Richard (Dick) Gayle Marsteller passed away at the age of 87 in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Dick was born on May 8, 1934 in Harrison, Nebraska to John Wesley and Helen Irene (Unitt) Marsteller. In 2nd Grade, during World War II, Dick began moving between Colorado and Utah where his father worked Construction as an Electrician. Dick was 7 years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed. The family settled back in Harrison where John built and ran the Texaco station and artifact museum on HWY 20. In 7th grade, Dick was proud of the fact that he was given the 8th grade test, passed and moved right into 9 th grade. He was passionate about sports which reflected with his high school football career as a Running Back for Sioux County High School scoring 52 touchdowns. He played high school basketball and town leagues for both basketball and baseball. In 1980 and early 1990's he enjoyed pitching for the town team Softball league. He was also a member of the Harrison Volunteer Fire Department. Growing up, Dick and his brother, Johnny, could always be found either mastering their falconry or hunting and fishing. After graduation, he worked for Sioux County as a road maintainer. After the passing of his Brother Johnny in 1968, Richard took over Johnny's business with Standard Oil-Amoco as a bulk-fuel distributor. Around 1993, Richard sold the business to Eberspecher Oil Company at which time he went back to work for Sioux County road maintenance.
At the young age of 70, Richard fully retired where he continued to enjoy golfing with many friends from the community and his Nephew Scott. Every Saturday in the fall you could find him cheering on his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. Weekday mornings at 10:00 AM he would enjoy community coffee and catching up on the latest news.
Dick is preceded in death by his twin sisters, his parents, brother Johnny, sister in law Flossie, nephew Mark, great nephew Robby, Rose Marsteller and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He is survived by his Son, David J. Marsteller (Debra); Daughter, Sandy Hesse (Paul) and three step-children; Richard E. Bridge, Christal Wickstrom (Kevin) and Kimberly Jaeger (Klaus). He has 10 Grandchildren; Stephanie Moore (Justin), Lance Pruitt (Megan), Reagan and Bennett Hesse, Lindsay Hofer (Mitch), Nathan and Andrew Bridge, Kaci Wickstrom, Michael Jaeger (Kayla), Nicholas Jaeger and 6 Great Grandchildren; Parker, Ryan and Alex Hofer, Kristen Bridge, Lucas Jaeger and Adeline Acuna.
