A Chadron woman has been arrested for methamphetamine, marijuana and child abuse charges.

On Thursday, Feb. 25 the Chadron Police Department received a report of suspected illegal drug use at a residence.

Chadron Police Sgt. Patrick Young headed the investigation with assistance from Officer Derek Bauer, Sam Cafferty and Seth Orsborn. The officers conducted interviews with several people throughout the afternoon.

Sgt. Young obtained a search warrant for 350 North Pine Street. The search of the home revealed several items of drug paraphernalia including glass pipes, a bong, residue amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana joints.

"At the time of the service of the search warrant there were children living in the residence," Chadron Police Lt. Rick Hickstein said. "Based on the evidence obtained during the investigation, three minor children were placed into the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services by the law enforcement officers."

37-year-old Laura Catches was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine (Class 4 Felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (infraction). Catches was transported to the Dawes County Jail and bond was set at 10% of $10,000.

59-year-old Arvella Catches was issued a citation for possession of marijuana less than one ounce (infraction).

The Chadron Police Department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game and Parks, and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
