Monte Darell Sample, 70, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff after 3 and a half years of living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
He was born October 9, 1953 in Crawford, Nebraska to Darell E. and Dorothy L. (Moyer) Sample.
In July 1972 he entered the United States Navy. He married Joleen (Jo) Neitz on September 20, 1972 in Torrington, Wyoming. After their marriage, they lived in San Diego, California for the duration of his naval service. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in June of 1976.
In 1976 they moved to Hemingford. While in Hemingford he worked at the Electric Hose (now Parker) and Box Butte County Road Department. He retired from the County in 2010. When he retired he started his own scrapping business, MS Metal Recycling. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Monte is survived by his daughters, Kristin (Roy) Bryner of Vienna, GA and Emily (Thomas) Linegar of South Beach, OR; brothers Arlin (Linda) Sample of Greeley, CO and Mike (Deb) Sample of Goodrich, CO. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Clarissa (Trevor) Carter of Casper, WY, Colin Bryner of Rock Springs, WY, Clay Bryner of Vienna, GA, and Natalee Linegar of South Beach, OR; his great-grandchildren, Harper, Arden, and Freya Carter of Casper, WY; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was looking forward to the birth of his great-grandson Carter in March. He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Sample, his parents, and his sister Darellyn Kohrman.
Monte’s wish was to be cremated and no services will be held at this time.
