The South Fork Fire has now grown to 28,067 acres.
Along the northern edge of the fire, Thursday, scouts continued evaluating the perimeter and identifying opportunities to further strengthen and secure lines. In Division Zulu, crews made significant progress along the eastern edge.
There was a slight increase in containment, up to 7%, as crews continue to strengthen and hold existing lines. In Division Juliet, firefighters spent Thursday managing residual heat south of Highway 20 to prevent any potential spread.
Thursday night, fire activity is expected to respond to shifting winds, with the potential for movement to the north and west. There was night operations out Thursday.
Air operations were bolstered Thursday with additional aviation resources, including a fixed-wing aircraft and an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), providing enhanced intelligence and support for ground operations.
As anticipated, overnight and into the early morning hours, fire activity increased in Divisions Delta and Zulu. This area contains the largest section of open fireline and is expected to see the most fire activity today as shifting winds continue to influence fire behavior.
Firefighters remained engaged in these divisions, working to strengthen and secure containment lines while monitoring for any new fire movement. Crews will continue to focus efforts on limiting fire spread and improving line security throughout the day today.
