Midwest Theater and Theatre West Announce Youth on Broadway: A Growing Collaboration for Young Performers

After a highly successful inaugural collaboration and a standout youth production in January 2026, the Midwest Theater and Theatre West are proud to announce the official launch of Youth on Broadway, an expanded performing arts initiative designed to elevate opportunities for young performers across the region.

Youth on Broadway builds on the strengths of both organizations: the historic Midwest Theater will serve as the performance venue, while Theatre West will extend the excellence they have long established through their summer Theatre West Theatre Opportunity for Youth (TWOFY) program. This new collaboration offers a more focused, skill‑building experience for students who want to grow as performers.

Last year marked the first year of partnership between the two organizations, and the success of the January 2026 production demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for expanded youth programming. Youth on Broadway will include formal auditions and feature smaller casts, allowing for more individualized instruction, deeper artistic development, and meaningful mentorship.

“Our goal is to create a welcoming space where young people can discover their voice,” said Krista Baird, Executive Director of the Midwest Theater. “Youth on Broadway is more than a program, it’s a community.”

Tami Lippstreu, Managing Director of Theatre West, shared her excitement for the program’s evolution: “Together we are providing youth theatre opportunities for an underserved age group. Youth theatre not only develops acting, movement, and vocal skills but also nurtures self-confidence, collaboration with peers, and problem solving. Plus, it’s just great fun!”
