SUTHERLAND, Neb.-A Sutherland couple has been arrested on allegations of felony child abuse.
On April 10, deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by the Emergency Department at Great Plains Health. The hospital reported two children ages three and six years old were currently being treated for a possible drug overdose.
Deputies responded and found both children were in serious distress. The parents of the children were not present at the time and a grandparent had transported them to the hospital.
Later in the day, Deputies met with the mother of the children Emily Martin, 27, of Sutherland. Martin was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center. Deputies also met with Joshua Holmes, 30, also of Sutherland, who resides with Martin. Mr. Holmes was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center.
The children were placed in Protective Custody and a search warrant on the property was conducted.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely.
