Zelma Irene McLaughlin, age 85, of Gering passed away on March 10, 2024 with her family at her side at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and there are no services scheduled at this time. Fond memories and messages of sympathy may be left for the family at www.geringchapel.com
Zelma was born October 19, 1938 in Crawford, Nebraska to August and Christine (Henry) Rohde. She married Raymond Lee McLaughlin in September of 1956, and although the couple divorced in 1974, they remained close. She was a cook and waitress for Chef Café in Minatare, and later on at Western Café in Scottsbluff. Alongside her love of cooking, she also enjoyed crocheting, and made many beautiful afghans and several crocheted dolls for family members and friends. Additionally, she loved to play bingo. She would travel to Deadwood and Prairie Winds to play the slots.
Survivors include Zelma’s five children, Susan (Ed) Bostron of Gering, Steve McLaughlin of Minatare, Christine (Darren DeMaranville) of Rapid City, SD, Cheryl (Larry) Santo of Omaha, and Kenneth McLaughlin of Gering; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Ray McLaughlin, and all 7 of her siblings.
