Leonard Yellow Horse Set for Appearance at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument

HARRISON, Neb. - Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is planning to host wood carver Leonard Yellow Horse, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the monument visitor center, located at 301 River Road, Harrison Nebraska, 69346.

Leonard Yellow Horse is an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota. He lives on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Born in Chadron, Nebraska, Mr. Yellow Horse is a self-taught artist. He fashions cottonwood tree roots into faceless figurines based on his native people.

This cultural demonstrator program is supported with funding from Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, the official non-profit partner of Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is located 34 miles north of Mitchell, Nebraska, or 22 miles south of Harrison, Nebraska on Highway 29 and 3 miles east on River Road. The Visitor Center summer hours are 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and the trails are open from dawn until dusk.
