Florine was born May 19, 1930, in Scottsbluff to Alexander and Irene Ziegler. She attended grade school at Lake Alice and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. She then began working at Montgomery Telephone Company doing accounting work. While there, she met her lifelong friend, Jean Ann and after going on a blind date with her boyfriend, Clifford Votruba’s, brother she was soon married to Lloyd Joseph Votruba, November 27, 1955.
They moved to Hemingford to Lloyd’s farm where their great grandson, Lloyd G., still resides.
To this marriage came three sons: Kevin (Janet), Keri and Trevor (Jennifer). They were the light of her life, and she relished in the triumphs and struggles that only a woman raising all boys can understand. The fruits of her labor were 5 grandchildren and, later, several great grandchildren. She loved watching them grow and hearing about the goings on at the farm. She will be remembered by many for her cooking skills – feeding many wedding goers and such with other German women. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing. Right up until her retirement in 2008 she fed many teenagers and hired hands meals and baked goods that will not be forgotten. Even while she enjoyed retirement in Scottsbluff, she kept a freezer stocked with baked goods and you never left empty-handed!
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Wilma and Robert Buckhamer (sister and brother-in-law); husband Lloyd J. and son, Keri, as well as a number of brother and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her sons: Kevin (Janet) and Trevor (Jennifer); grandchildren: Casey (Celeste – McKinley and Rowan), Catrina (daughter Natalia) Elley (Tyler), Lloyd (Micki – Gracia, Bryndle and Taos), and Jessica (Jason); sisters-in-law: Jean Ann Votruba, Delphine (Dale) Campbell, Shirley (Jim) Styvar, Mary Votruba and Bernice Herian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
