Walter (Wally) W. Mischnick went home to his Lord and Savior Thursday, June 13th, peacefully, surrounded by family after a courageous fight with dementia.
Wally was born in Alliance, Nebraska on November 5th, 1948. His parents were Walter A Mischnick and Hilda D (Probst) Mischnick. He attended school in Alliance and graduated from Alliance High School in 1966. He then attended college at Kearny State and the University of Nebraska. He graduated with a degree in construction science in 1971. After graduation he returned to Alliance to join the family construction business.
On July 8th, 1972, he married Jody (Wolff) Mischnick. To this union 2 sons were born, Christopher in 1976, and Timothy in 1978. They made their home in Alliance, NE where Wally worked with his brother (Ron) in the family construction business. Wally was part of the Parish Ministry Associates (PMA) program through St. John’s Lutheran Church. His faith and spirituality grew in many ways from this experience. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. Upon retirement he enjoyed watching his son (Chris) and nephew (Brian) continue the family construction business, visiting his grandchildren, and keeping in touch with lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Ellen, brother Paul and wife Sanfra, and brother-in-law Bill Koester. He is survived by his wife Jody, son Christopher (Rhonda), son Timothy (Kiley). Also surviving siblings Marjarie (Mischnick) Koester, Ron Mischnick (Marlene), Carol (Mischnick) Seger (Kenneth), grandchildren William, Vivian, Jack and Cherokee, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, June 22nd at 2:00 PM, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alliance NE. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Columbarium or Sullivan Hills Camp.
