Chadron Police Arrest a Man for Possession of Methamphetamine

During the late-night hours of Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025, Officer Deines conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle along the 400 block of Bordeaux Street for failing to dim high beam headlights and not having an operational low beam headlight.

During his contact with the driver of the motor vehicle, Officer Deines observed suspected drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Officer Deines called for K-9 Sukey and Handler Officer Orsborn to assist with the traffic stop. Officer Orsborn deployed K-9 Sukey, which then alerted to suspected narcotics being inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted with officers locating approximately 7.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

As a result, the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Dean Hawley was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hawley was transported to the Dawes County Jail and booked into custody. Bond was set at 10 percent of $20,000.
