Chadron library to kick-off summer reading program

Saturday, June 4, from 9:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. the 500 block of Bordeaux St. will be closed during the preparation and implementation of the Summer Reading Program Kick-off. The kick-off event will take place from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. There will be games for everyone, a bit of music and food (until supplies last). A tiny beach will be provided for those desirous to play with the sand.

Participants can wear costumes related to the Ocean theme or their swimming suits if they so desire.

The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and the Chadron Police Department will be present with some of their equipment.

Oceans of Possibilities is the theme of this year Summer Reading Program. Every Summer, the Chadron Public Library offers a reading contests to young patrons (ages 6 months to 18 years old). Helping children to retain reading skills during the summer months is the goal of the Summer Reading Program.

This year, the Program will span from June 4 to July 16. Preregistration will be June 4. First 50 individuals to sign up will receive a t-shirt. The official registration will continue from June 6 to the end of the program: July 16. Participants will be able to garner weekly prizes based on the amount of reading done. There will be a final award event with prizes for all readers.

During the Summer Reading Program, the library will offer weekly events for different age levels. See the schedule below:

(K-4th) Tuesday 10:30 a.m.

(5th-7th) Tuesday 1:00 p.m.

(6 months -5 yrs.) Thursday 10:30 a.m.

(8th-12th) Thursday 1:00 p.m.

Family Fridays 2:00 p.m.

This year program is sponsored by Friends of the Library, McDonald, Pizza Hut, Runza and Security First Bank.

Library cards are free to the residents of Dawes County and neighboring communities.
