Margaret M Kicken, died on May 14th, 2025, in Scottsbluff, at the age of 90. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Christ The King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Mike McDonald as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Alliance at 2pm. Visitation and a Rosary Service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the church at 6pm. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Margaret’s honor be made in care of her family to be designated at a later time. Margaret Mary (McDonald) Kicken was born September 16th, 1934, in Alliance, NE to Emmett and Gertrude (Carpenter) McDonald. She rode horseback to a one room school in Sioux County. She graduated St. Agnes Academy in Alliance and Sisters of St. Francis Nursing School in Minot, North Dakota.

Margaret enjoyed a long and successful career as a nurse, being employed in hospitals in Alliance and Scottsbluff, NE. She retired following 17 years of dedicated and reputable employment as surveyor of health care facilities for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Margaret and Lucien were married 68 years. They were wed in Mitchell, NE, on June 30th, 1956. They ranched in the Sandhills later moving to Milford NE and Alliance, NE ending in Scottsbluff, NE, where they raised their six children. Margaret and Lucien enjoyed square dancing and traveling in their camper throughout the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed many trips to Europe, visiting family and friends.

Margaret will be remembered by many, primarily due to her personality and ability to leave an impression. She is known for her kindness, her storytelling, her ability to remain in touch with close and extended family members, her role as family historian, her cooking, her humor and wit, and especially her faith.

Survivors include Mark (Joanne) Kicken of Buckely, WA, David (Joan) Kicken of Minatare, NE, Mary (Danny) Tompkins of Scottsbluff, NE, Teresa Jacobs of Lincoln, NE, Emily (Pat) Starr of Sioux Falls, SD, Louis (Amy) Kicken, of Gering, NE; sixteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding Margaret in death is her husband, Lucien Kicken, grandson Zachary Tompkins, and great-grandson, Jacob Rosmann.

Margaret’s family would like to thank Brookstone Hospice for the excellent care and comfort provided to Margaret and her family. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the family and these contributions will be donated to the causes Margaret supported.
