LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) encourages residents to participate in the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey, a vital effort to improve health across the state by gathering critical insights into the health and well-being of Nebraskans. All survey responses are completely confidential.

“Each year, BRFSS aims to complete about 12,000 surveys with randomly selected Nebraska adults. Responses to the BRFSS survey help guide programs that improve health and prevent disease across our state,” said Dr. Timothy Tesmer, DHHS Chief Medical Officer. “If Nebraskans see an incoming call from 402-472-5333, I encourage you to answer the call, share your experience and have a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of your community.”

What is the BRFSS Survey?

BRFSS is a nationwide phone survey that collects valuable information about health, risk factors and healthcare access. Topics include chronic disease, mental health, physical activity and others. Thousands of Nebraskans share their experiences each year, helping shape public health programs that benefit communities across the state.

Why Participate?

Your response helps:

- Identify Health Trends – Provide crucial data to guide public health decisions.

- Address Local Health Needs – Help highlight concerns unique to your community.

- Improve Healthcare and Prevention – Shape programs that enhance health and well-being.

How to Participate?

The survey is conducted throughout the year and takes about 25 minutes to complete. If you receive a call from 402-472-5333, please take a moment to share your input—it truly makes a difference!

A typical call begins with, "Hello, I am calling for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. My name is [trained interviewer’s name]. We are gathering information about the health of U.S. residents. This project is conducted by the health department with assistance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Your telephone number has been randomly selected, and I would like to ask you some questions about health and health practices."
