CHADRON – Dr. Alaric Williams, Dean of Professional Studies and Applied Sciences, recently attended the Becoming Academic Provost Academy in Portland hosted by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

Williams said a key takeaway from the academy was to always keep students in mind when making decisions.

“It’s best to lean in and look up. Listen and learn,” Williams said.

Other pointers he gained involved best practices when working with search firms.

His Professional Experience Plan (PEP) will focus on three areas. The first is institutional budgets and learning how to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations. His second goal is to gain more knowledge and experience collaborating with enrollment management to strengthen student experiences. The third is strategic planning in academic affairs by setting achievable goals, establishing core values, and developing a vision and mission.

Dr. Jim Powell, Vice President of Academic Affairs will mentor Williams throughout his project along with Johnnie Johnson, vice president of Admissions at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

Williams expressed thanks to CSC administrators who recommended him for the academy and supported his participation.
