Nick Lecher, a man of integrity, strength, and humor, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, in Port St. Lucie, FL, at 4:23 AM. Born in Chadron, Nebraska, Bernard Nicolas Lecher Jr. graduated from Crawford High School in 1979. He pursued higher education at Chadron State College, earning his BS in Social Studies in 1984.
In 1986, Nick married the love of his life, Liz (Oates) Lecher, in Blytheville, Arkansas. Liz, an ESE teacher at Port St. Lucie High School, stood by his side for 38 wonderful years. Nick is survived by his brothers Michael (Diana) Lecher and Chris (Christy) Lecher, along with his cherished nieces and nephews: Alex Smith, Jessica Lecher-Wasson, Sarah Lecher, Keely Lecher, Ashley Lecher, Taylor Oates, and Seth Oates. His loyal French Bulldog, Jake E., was a constant companion and source of joy. He is predeceased by his parents Bernard and Harriet Lecher.
In 1988, Nick and Liz moved to Florida, where Nick embarked on a long and impactful career as a teacher at Port St. Lucie High School. From 1988 to 2024, he inspired countless students with his passion for education and his remarkable sense of humor. In 2003, Nick expanded his professional endeavors into the financial sector, specializing in fixed annuities and securities. He successfully managed over 1,000 clients, earning their respect and trust.
Nick had a love for golf, engaging conversations about finances, and leisurely Sundays watching golf with his beloved French Bulldog. He was a fervent fan of the Dallas Cowboys and college football. Nick’s travels took him to Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Mexico, and several Baltic countries, enriching his life with diverse experiences.
Nick's final moments were spent in his favorite recliner, surrounded by his devoted wife and Frenchie, after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Nick leaves behind a legacy of laughter, wisdom, and unwavering loyalty. His close friends, Charles Moore, Mark Cowles, Doug Atwood, Mike Rotherham, and Tom Burto, will forever remember his vibrant spirit.
A memorial service was held on June 13, 2024, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, with a special memorial at Port St. Lucie High School in the fall of 2024.
