The Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Marlyn D. Wilcox in connection with an investigation involving the sexual assault of a minor.
The identity of the juvenile victim will not be released. No additional information that could identify the victim will be disclosed, in accordance with applicable law.
Wilcox was taken into custody without incident on April 9, 2026, following a preliminary investigation conducted by the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
As Sheriff, I want to formally recognize Chief Deputy Baden Shelmadine, Deputy Rey Valdez and Deputy Eathen Sanchez, who made it their priority to remove this dangerous offender from our community as quickly as possible. Through their swift and dedicated efforts, an arrest was made within hours of the initial report to law enforcement. Their professionalism, teamwork and sense of urgency reflect the commitment of this office to protecting our citizens.
The Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Alliance Police Department.
Wilcox is currently being charged with multiple offenses under Nebraska law, including First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class IB felony. Additional charges are being withheld from this release in order to protect the identity and privacy of the victim and their family.
Wilcox is being held at the Box Butte County Jail pending further court proceedings.
Court records indicate that Wilcox was previously convicted of sexual assault in 1987, prior to the establishment of the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry in 1997.
This investigation remains ongoing, and additional investigative techniques are being utilized to ensure the strongest possible case is presented to the Box Butte County Attorney’s Office, allowing for prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
