A fatal two-vehicle crash shut down Highway 385 north of Alliance on Monday night.
On Jan. 27 at approximately 6:00 p.m. a northbound Buick Lucerne driven by Bruce Engel, 68, of Hemingford crossed the centerline on Highway 385 near mile marker 111 and collided head on with a Chevrolet pickup driven by Levi Clouse, 21, of Hemingford.
Engel was pronounced deceased on scene.
Clouse was injured and transported by EMS to Box Butte General Hospital. He was later transported to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Highway 385 was shut down for approximately 5 hours.
"Preliminary investigation shows that seat belts were not in use in either vehicle," said Nebraska State Patrol spokesman, Cody Thomas.
