Edna Mae Hall, 90, was called home to the arms of her loving Savior on January 28, 2020.
She was born October 11, 1929, in Alliance, to George and Vita Laverne (Nason) Ditsch. The eldest of six children, she learned responsibility at a young age. She graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1947. Determined to make her own way in life, she then graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Alliance and obtained her license as a registered nurse. In 1951, she married William G. Brown, and to this union were born three sons: Stephen Glen, Larry Lee, and Ronald Dean. They later divorced, and Mae worked as many as three jobs at a time to support herself and her sons. During her nursing career, she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance and with Dr. Joseph Gardner in his clinic.
In 1971, she married Donald B. Hall. During nearly 32 years together, they enjoyed watching their children mature into adults, working together on the ranch, and relaxing at their cabin in the Black Hills. Their greatest love was their grandchildren. Mae loved to entertain, was always generous, and was continually asking what she could do for the people around her. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, especially raising beautiful roses.
Mae is survived by her sons, Stephen (Kim) Brown of Georgetown, Texas, Larry (Sandy) Brown of Canton, Kansas, and Ronald (Cindy) Brown of Alliance; her grandchildren, Jessica (Bradley) Mues of Everett, Washington; Amanda Brown of Loveland, Colorado; and Andrew (Allison) Brown of Wichita, Kansas; her great-grandson, Nolan Mues; her sisters, Duana Dugger of Alliance, Suzie Spangler of Gordon, Nebraska and Kay Reid of North Platte, Nebraska; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Maureen Roller of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; sister Lolita Brinker; brother Donald Ditsch; and her parents.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance with Rev. Richard Mueller and Rev. Martin Schnare officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, January 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mae’s honor be given to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran School or a charity of the donor’s choice.
