Funeral Services for Sheila Jean Stumph, 78, will be held at 11am Saturday March 21st, 2020 at the Community Building in Crawford, Nebraska. The viewing will be at Chamberlain Chapel in Crawford from 6-8 pm on Friday March 20th, the family will gather for viewing at 7pm.
Sheila (Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister) was born on August 10, 1941 to Sargent Richard C. Hunt and Ethel Crile in Custer, SD. Her father was in the US Army until Sheila was 14 years old. During that time, they lived in many places including a tour in Japan after the war and during the “occupation” period. He retired at Ft. Carson, CO when Sheila was in 8th grade. The family came back and settled in Crawford where her mother was from and where her father previously was stationed at Fort Robinson in the remount division.
Sheila started High School in Crawford and this is where she met her soul mate, John Stumph. After his graduation, he joined the navy. The couple decided to get married so she could go with him. To this union were born their three children. Debra Kay, Lori Sue, and Jerry Lee Stumph. They spent 8 years in the navy traveling to many bases, including two tours in Hawaii. After John retired from the Navy, they came back to Crawford and became an active part of the community with involvement in Jaycees, Fire Department, Eagles, Crawford Methodist Church in addition to numerous school activities with their children. The Family bought Stumph Sanitation and the Stumph family farm. They lived on the farm until 2010 when the house burned down. They moved to town and continued to have a fulfilling life for several years. Sheila loved her 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren dearly, and always enjoyed spending time with each child, and making special unique memories.
Sheila Stumph is preceded in death by her husband, John Stumph, her daughter and son in law, Debra and Thomas Miller, her parents Ethel Jordan and Richard Hunt, brother in laws Joel Stumph and Glen Cavaness, sisters in law Maxine Cavaness, Ruth Stumph, and Mary Stumph.
Sheila is survived by son Jerry Stumph (Lori Ann Palomares, daughter Lori Stromberg (Marty Widener, brother Monty Hunt (Linda Hunt, sister Nona Hunt (Steve Bauer, brother in law Dwight Stumph, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
