Alliance – At their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on April 8th via Zoom, the Box Butte Development Corporation (BBDC) Board of Directors voted unanimously to communicate full support of the “Additional Half Cent Sales Tax” initiative proposed by the City of Alliance.

This is a new ballot measure slated for the May 12th Primary Election.

The primary use of the funds raised through this additional tax will be spent on public infrastructure improvements.

The Alliance City Council proposes an allocation of 75% of revenues to Streets and the remaining 25% to go toward either street repair or general improvements to municipal infrastructure.

Use of the remaining 25% on anything other than streets would require a Super Majority vote, or three-fourths of City Council.

The proposed additional half cent tax will bring our sales tax to 7.5% and is projected to bring in an additional $600,000.00 in annual revenue.

Raising revenues through sales tax is considered the most equitable as all consumers pay sales taxes.
