A staple car-show in the panhandle has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Route 385 Cruisers "Thunder on the Prairie" annual car-show in the Alliance Central Park has been cancelled for this year. The car-show is usually held in June every year.

"The Route 385 Cruisers Board of Directors decided to cancel the 2020 Thunder on the Prairie Rod Run," said Mike McGinnis, Route 385 Cruisers member.

McGinnis said they talked about rescheduling the event to August, but decided not to. This year's car-show would of been the 20th anniversary.

"We get schedules from people from South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Iowa, and Nebraska. There just wasn't going to be a weekend that would work that wouldn't conflict with the county fair, Kool Deadwood Nights, or Labor Day weekend. We just want to encourage everyone to stay safe and healthy," McGinnis added.

McGinnis said other car-shows around the area for April, May, and the first part of June have also been cancelled. He said he's sure there will be more cancellations to come.

"It was a super hard decision for us as we were really excited for our 20th annual to happen," said Wayne Davis, Route 385 Cruisers member. "We will be returning money to everyone that has registered and sponsor money back to our generous sponsors. So next year will still be our 20th car show. We are hoping things later in the year will allow us to enjoy other shows. Everyone stay safe."
