Doane Dubry (1931 - 2020

Doane Dubry of Chadron passed away Monday, April 27, 2020, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford. He was 88.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Russ Seger officiating. Burial with military honors will follow and will be at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville.

Doane was born May 30, 1931, to George and Esther (Dickenson) Dubry in Anselmo, NE, and grew up in Grant county.  He graduated from Hyannis High School in 1950 and enlisted in the US Navy. After training in San Diego, CA, he worked on electrical and power projects and was a small craft operator in Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, 39th parallel, Korea, and Yokomama, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to Whitman, NE where he worked as a ranch hand.  

In May 1954, Doane married Betty Winters. In 1955, Doane enlisted in the US Air Force and served at several stateside bases. He also spent three years in Okinawa, Japan and one year in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971 with just over 20 years of total active military service. Doane, Betty and their two children then settled in Chadron where Doane worked for ABC Electric for 35+ years. Doane and Betty were married over 57 years before her passing in 2012.

Doane was a member of the VFW,  American Legion, Air Force Sergeants Assoc, Retired Enlisted Assoc., and the BPO Elks.  He called Bingo at the Elks for many years before it closed. Doane was a kind and generous man who was always willing to help anyone who needed something. He loved his family and especially his granddaughters who, as young children, spent many memorable summers with him and their grandmother.

Doane is survived by his step-sister Joyce Sloyer of Casper, WY; half-brother Thomas Dubry of Norfolk, NE; son George (Cheryl) Dubry of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Charleen Wyman of Houston, TX; grandchildren Alicia (Justin) Rastberger of Spotsylvania, VA, Tara Wyman of Baltimore, MD, and Tyler Kleidon of Eagle, CO; and great-grandchildren Jett, Ayden, and Jaxx Rastberger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Meryl Dubry, wife Betty, and sister Georgia May Miller.
