Evelyn Frances Sones Keller passed away May 29, 2020 at her home in Gordon. She was born October 18, 1923 in Gordon, Nebraska to Edward Lee and Laura Bell (Knight) Sones, the youngest of four children.

Her early years were spent on the ranch 23 miles southeast of Gordon where she attended grade school at District #129 and then graduated from Gordon High School in 1940. She attended Normal School Training and went on to teach at rural schools for 6 years. She also worked at JC Penney for 6 years, she then went to work at First National Bank as bookkeeper and teller retiring in 1995.

She met and married Willard Keller at the First Presbyterian Church in 1948, where they had a double wedding with her brother Lyle and Joyce (Yardley) Sones. In July of 1955 a little girl, Jeanette, became a part of their family through adoption.

Evelyn was very active in the church, serving as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School, Youth Program and with the Women’s Association. She was a life-time member of the Legion Auxiliary, member of the Eastern Star and served on the board for the Senior Citizen Center. She was also a member of a couple of Card Clubs. She enjoyed doing crafts, reading, playing cards, traveling and being with friends and family.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Willard of 65 years, her parents, brothers Lee and Lyle, sister Lillian, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter Jeanette, granddaughter Christian (Drew) Delane, great-grandchildren Silvie and Adam Delane, sister-in-law Joyce Sones, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday June 6, 2020, 10 AM at Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church or the Gordon Rescue Squad and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
