George Patrick McDonald (1931 - 2024)

George Patrick McDonald passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.  He was 93.

He was born in Alliance on February 11, 1931 to Timothy and Esther (Nation) McDonald.

He served in the U.S. Army from December 1, 1948 until he was honorably discharged on August 19, 1952.

On July 27, 1953 he was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Tschacher in Hot Springs, SD.

He hired on the C.B. & Q. Railroad in 1953.  Following 40 years of service he retired as an electrician from BNSF in 1993.  He also was engaged in numerous farming operation in the area his entire life.  George was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Eagles Club, American Legion and I.B.E.W.

He is survived by his sons, Father Mike McDonald of Gering, Pat (Margaret) McDonald of McKinney, TX, Dave (Sandy) McDonald of Strasburg, CO and Tim (Brenda) McDonald of Alliance, his grandchildren, Sarah McDonald and fiancé’ Shaun Sayres, Matthew McDonald, Nathan (Jessica) McDonald, Shawn (Danielle) McDonald, Jordan (Kyle) Cisneros, Krista (Riley) Nemeth, Chelsea McDonald and Kay Lee McDonald and 7 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Tom McDonald of Hemingford, Esther (Arnold) Rogers of Kansas City, MO, Jerry McDonald of Denver, Elaine Heisey of AZ, Helen White of Thedford and Kathleen Keaton of The Colony, TX  and his brother-in-law, George (Devona) Tschacher of Cheyenne, WY and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his brother, Francis McDonald and his sister, Sharon Stark.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance. Father Michael McDonald and Father Matt Koperski and other Priests of the Diocese of Grand Island officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.  A wake service will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-4 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home and continue at the wake service. 

Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
