Barry Lamont Harris, 71, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 14, 2020, at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.

He was born November 28, 1948 in Gordon, Nebraska to Squire O. “Jack” and Margaret L. “Peggy” (Shald) Harris. He graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1967. While attending Chadron State College from 1967 to 1970, Barry was a four-year starting linebacker for the Eagles. His coach was once quoted as saying he was the surest tackler on the team.

On August 24, 1973, he was united in marriage to Sharon K. Minnick at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The couple was blessed with three children, Justin, Erin and Derek. Following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps, Barry took ownership of Harris Sales Company and led the company with great pride and commitment until his death.

Many will remember Barry for his generous spirit and unwavering support of the community.  Barry enjoyed spending his time playing golf, watching the Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife, Shari, his children and their spouses, Justin and Kirsten Harris of Lincoln, Erin and Matt Robak of Omaha and Derek and Denise Harris of Alliance, and his grandchildren, Jake, Lucy, Kate, Ike, William, Claire and Meredith.

He is also survived by his sister, Debbie and her husband Ed Fulton of Mount Ida, Arkansas and his brother, Kevin and his wife Theresa Harris of Alliance, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A wake service will be Tuesday, August 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Following the wake service, everyone is welcome to join the family for dinner at the Westside Event Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Father Tim Stoner will officiate. Cremation will follow and a committal service will be Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery.
