HALSEY, Neb. — With decreased complexity, management of the Road 203 Fire has transitioned from the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 3 to local resources as of 8 a.m. this morning. The fire is 35,913 acres and 80 percent contained.

Yesterday, Unmanned Aircraft Systems were used to provide information to local resources about the fire perimeter and any heat remaining in the fire area. This information will set local responders up for success as the incident response continues.

While firefighters continue to monitor and patrol containment lines, crews are also starting suppression repair throughout the fire area. For the Road 203 Fire, crews will work on repairing damaged fencing and rehabilitating dozer lines by covering them with scattered limbs and brush to reduce accessibility.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for all of Nebraska due to high winds, high temperatures and low humidity.

The Bessey Ranger District is closed to ensure safety for the public and crews responding to the Road 203 Fire. For further information and to view the official closure, go to: www.fs.usda.gov/r02/nebraska/alerts/road-203-fire-area-closure
