The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department was called to a vehicle fire on the campus of Chadron State College on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
"When we got there the engine compartment was fully engulfed," Chadron Fire Chief Brenden Martens said. "The first engine [from CVFD] pulled a pre-connect and they started cooling the fire down and also cooling the car right next to it, keeping it from trying to spread. The second engine showed up then we put another line...and then we were able to put foam into the engine compartment."
Martens said it was an electrical fire on a mid-2000's Honda sedan.
"The whole fuse box and everything like that was all melted," Martens said. "It sounds like it was an electrical fire in the engine compartment."
Martens said there was no injuries.
The vehicle is a total loss.
"The guys [firefighters] were able to save the car right next to it so that was really important and good," Martens said. "We had a really good response and the guys did a heck of a job."
The Chadron Police Department and Chadron State College Campus Security assisted with this fire.
