Panhandle Post has received word that the Hemingford vs Sutherland football game scheduled for Friday, Sept. 24 has been cancelled. Hemingford Schools posted the following release on their website Wednesday morning.
"The decision was made to cancel our game Friday vs. Sutherland.
This was a difficult decision to make, but one that was made for student-athlete safety. We cannot safely field a team this week.
Our student-athletes have been battling through low numbers all season, but the number of student-athletes missing practice this week due to injury is higher and drives our numbers even lower.
We will still have practice and will continue to work together as a TEAM. We will re-evaluate for Perkins County early next week."
Hemingford has remaining games at Perkins County, Oct 1 and home vs Bayard, Oct. 7. The game vs Kimball. Oct. 15 was cancelled earlier this month. As stated, Hemingford will re-evaluate their remaining games next week.
