As of this morning, the Log Road Fire is estimated to be approximately 1,200 acres. Firefighters worked through the night to battle the blaze, which continues to be driven by red flag conditions. Crews are actively constructing dozer lines to slow the fire’s spread in an area expected to experience continued winds with gusts up to 30 mph. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach around 80 degrees, contributing to very dry conditions with relative humidity near 15%.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon, with the highest chance of precipitation—around 40%—between 4 p.m. and midnight. While dry lightning remains possible during the afternoon and evening, wetting rain may occur overnight. Thunderstorms could produce gusty, erratic winds, but also bring improved humidity levels—potentially rising to around 80%.
Local fire departments have provided as much support as they can, and local US Forest Service resources have been invaluable to this initial attack effort. We thank the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands for their support.
More resources have been rolling in from surrounding states, and a Type 3 Incident Management Team from the State of Nebraska will be taking over the Log Road Fire at 7am July 1st.
