Evelyn Mae Birdsall (1937 - 2024)

Evelyn Mae Birdsall, 86 of Morrill, Nebraska passed away Monday, January 15, 2024 at Emerald Court in Scottsbluff with her family by her side.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Father Mike McDonald officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home. A private family graveside will take place at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date. At her request, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Great Plains Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association or to Panhandle Humane Society. Fond memories may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Evelyn was born on March 23, 1937 in Bayard, Nebraska to Leo A. and Marie (Marker) Durnal. She attended elementary schools at Highland School District #5 in Minatare, and District #13 in Bayard. She graduated from Bayard High School. Evelyn attended Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney and WNCC in Scottsbluff.

She married Jay Willard Birdsall on August 16, 1958 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Gering.

Evelyn worked at numerous places: Crocker Claims, Bayard High School, Farming and Ranching, LB Murphy, Fashions Shoppe, Copperfield Books, Cheatum’s, Western Office Supply, Muhlberger’s and Bluff’s Chiropractic.

She was member of the Dutch Flats Birthday Club, D.O.E.S., Sweet Adeline’s, Nebraska Rattlesnake Hunting Club, Panhandle Humane Society, American Heart Association, Nebraska State Historical Society and Great Plains Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association.

Evelyn enjoyed reading, play piano, music, hiking, rattlesnake hunting, nature study, History of the American Indian, Needle craft and painting.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years Jay Willard Birdsall; daughter Cynthia (Daryl) Burkhart of Wellington, CO; son Stephen Birdsall of Scottsbluff, NE; grandson Levi (Heather) Burkhart, great grandchildren Piper and Samantha; grandson Matthew (Katie) Burkhart and great grandchildren Maxwell and Penelope; brother Robert L (Anne) Durnal of Eaton, CO and nieces Lori (Victor) Hawkins, Tami (Bret) Fox and Missi (John) Adams; brother Kelly S. (Bette) Durnal of Gering; sister-in-law Connie Birdsall and niece Janelle Anderson and great nieces Michelle and Dana and nephew Kerry.
