Buffalo Creek Fire started on Nov. 14 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Firefighters we’re on scene and immediately recognized the complexity exceeded a single department and began requesting mutual aid from local and state agencies.

The fire is currently estimated at 1,500 acres within the Buffalo Creek Wildlife Management Area and 15% containment. This fire is managed under Unified Command with Agency Representatives from local and state agencies.

The fire has approached Wrights Gap Road where firefighters are providing structure protection. Firefighters have created mechanical lines for containment and prepping areas where firefighters can successfully burn areas out. Area closures are in effect. Buffalo Creek WMA is currently closed and Wrights Gap Road is closed.

Rugged, inaccessible terrain and wind driven runs has hampered firefighting efforts. Monday’s plan includes burning operations where firefighters can be successful. However potential Red Flag warnings might continue to hamper suppression efforts.

Many agencies have assisted. Too many to name at this point. We are thankful for the community support. Many have reached out to donate. Donations of water, Gatorade, Gatorade zero, eye drops, ibuprofen, granola bars, individual chips, ChapStick would be appropriate. Please stand by for times and drop off locations or contact us through Firefighter Ministries. They will coordinate those efforts.
