Ev was born June 30, 1935 on the Dietlein family ranch, north of Oshkosh, to Paul and Irene (Mardis) Dietlein. While staying in Alliance with his grandparents George and Anna (Reck) Dietlein, Ev attended school at St. Agnes Academy, graduating in 1952. After High School Ev joined the Marines in 1956 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He learned the local language and “Once a Marine, always a Marine” was true for how Ev lived the rest of his life. Following his military service, he returned to the family ranch and began his life-long commitment to the life he loved, Ranching. On August 28, 1958 he married Marjory Kosmicki in Alliance, Nebraska. Ev and Marge became parents to three sons, Daniel, Timothy and George, together they worked the ranch and formed the current Four D Ranch, Co.
When not ranching Ev enjoyed flying, piloting his Super Cub plane and helicopter. Riding his horses, team-roping, hunting and fishing were other activities he enjoyed. He was a founding member of the Heart of the Hills Rural Fire Department, was a member of the Garden County Sheriff’s Posse, and the Garden County Reorganization board. Ev belonged to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and served on the board for several years. He was also a mentor to many of the local teens who worked for him on the ranch or in the hayfield over the years. Ev loved his grandchildren and was recently blessed with his first great-granddaughter.
While we mourn Ev’s passing, we are comforted in knowing he is at peace and is now reunited with those who proceeded him in death; his sons, Dan and George and grandson Taylor, as well as his parents and sister Paulette (Dietlein) Lyda.
Survivors include his wife, Marjory, sister Nancy Shaheen, son Tim (Ellen) Dietlein, granddaughter Sierra (Luke) Hanson, grandson Jaden Dietlein, and great-granddaughter Sutton Hanson.
Memorials may be made to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 300 W. 4th Street Oshkosh, NE 69154
