ALLIANCE, Neb. — Housing remains one of the biggest challenges facing communities across western Nebraska, and in the latest episode of the “Box Butte Briefing,” local leaders discuss what is being done to address the issue in Box Butte County.
Panhandle Post’s Olivia Hasenauer is joined by Sarah from the Alliance Chamber of Commerce and Jennifer from the Box Butte Development Corporation for a conversation about housing, workforce recruitment and the role available housing plays in the future growth of the area.
During the episode, Sarah and Jennifer discuss some of the housing challenges facing the community and why the issue goes well beyond finding a place to live. The availability of quality housing can directly affect a community’s ability to recruit and retain employees, attract new families and support economic growth.
Jennifer also discusses housing initiatives currently underway through the Box Butte Development Corporation, including approximately $780,000 in housing-related loans that have been distributed to support housing efforts in the area.
The conversation explores the impact those investments have had on the community and the work that remains as local organizations look for ways to encourage additional housing development.
Hasenauer also asks both guests to look toward the future and answer an important question: What would housing success in Box Butte County look like five years from now?
