He was born 12-30-1934 to Ernest Schmidt, Sr. and Edna Olson Schmidt in Center, NE. His family moved to the Lake Minatare area when he was quite young. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church. Dwight attended Lake Minatare school and graduated from Minatare High School in 1953. He spent two years in the army from 1957 to 1959. He enjoyed the time he spent in Germany. After his discharge from the army, he farmed with his father and brother in the Lake Minatare area. Dwight did a lot of custom work for local farmers, mostly swathing. He also worked several campaigns at the sugar factory. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos and the Cornhuskers play football and liked to voice his opinion on how the games were played. Stock car racing was another sport he enjoyed, and he often took his nephews along to watch. Dwight was a small animal lover. He had many dogs and cats over the years, which he doted on. After moving to town, he enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds in his yard. Gardening was something he really enjoyed, and he liked to share the fruits of his labor with friends and family. Thank you to special caregivers, Tammy, Andrea, and Victoria.
