Lawrence 'Larry' Henry Joseph Niehues (1953 - 2022)

A memorial service for 69- year old Larry Niehues of Chadron will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established and donations can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Lawrence “Larry” Henry Joseph Niehues was born June 24, 1953 in Axtel, Kansas. He was the first of seven children born to Aloysius and Clara Niehues. He passed away peacefully in his sleep August 19, 2022 in Chadron with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.

Larry grew up in Corning, Kansas and moved to and settled in Nebraska in the late 70’s. He met and married his late wife, Marty, in Gordon, Nebraska in 1980. He became step-father to Marty’s three children and welcomed his daughter Nikki in 1981 and son Mathew in 1984.

Larry was a loving and caring father and grandfather who was very proud of his children and adored his granddaughters. Larry had a great love for the outdoors which he passed on to his children. Larry was generous and kind and looked out for others and helped in any way that he could and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Larry is survived by his children: Nikki Niehues (partner: George Overton) of Lead, SD, Matt (Lacey) Niehues of Chadron.          

Step-children: Mari (Denis) Rous of Martin, SD, Rick Shedeed of Rushville, NE, and Stephanie (Leonard) Gottwald of Hastings, NE.        

Grandchildren: Justine Taylor, Emilia Niehues, and Trinity Niehues of Chadron.       

Siblings: Joann (Dan) Hull, Glenn (Beverly) Niehues, Dennis (Julie) Niehues- all of Kansas.  Galen (Cathy) Niehues of Rushville, NE, and sister-in-law Barb Niehues of Alliance.

Close friends: John Craig and “Uncle Tom” who remained true and loyal friends until the end and helped make Larry’s final day’s fun and memorable.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife Marlene “Marty” Niehues in 1995, brothers David and Mark, and his parents Aloysius and Clara Niehues.

The family would like to thank Chadron Hospice and volunteers, Crest View Care Center, and Chadron Community Hospital for the kindness and care provided to Larry in his final days.
