David (Dave) Sligar, 98, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, August 2nd, 2026. Dave was born October 5th, 1927, in Fremont County, Iowa to David and Ethyl (Lord) Sligar.
Dave was inducted into the Army on April 19th, 1946. He served 2 years in the 793rd Transportation Corp. in the South Pacific. Dave returned home and helped his dad farm until he went to work for Sonday Roscoe John Deere in Shenandoah, Iowa.
On November 6th, 1949, Dave married Eleanor Nook. From this union, one daughter Tamara (Tammie) was born. They later divorced.
Dave farmed in Page County, Iowa from 1960 to 1978. In 1978 Dave moved to Alliance, Nebraska. There he worked for John Deere, drove the mail truck from Alliance to North Platte, Nebraska and farmed for several farmers in the area.
In 1985, Dave met the love of his life Sandy Kinser. They married 8 months later and has called Hemingford, Nebraska home for 38 years.
Dave is survived by his wife Sandy of 40 years, daughter Tammie (Randy) Carpenter of Adel, Iowa, stepson William Kinser of Hemingford, Nebraska, stepdaughter Terri (Dave) White of Pasco, Washington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan (Kristi) Carpenter, Rustin Carpenter, Robbie Carpenter, Zach (Kaylie) Anderson, Kaisha White, Tyler White, Miranda White, Brittany White and Kacy (Ty) Leisy, 15 great grandsons, 4 great granddaughters, niece Denise Tacket and nephew Dick Humbert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and great-granddaughter, Sydney Carpenter.
Dave was a talker and could hold a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed his morning coffee and conversations with the guys. His sense of humor will be missed by all.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14th at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance, Nebraska.
Memorials may be made to the Ave of Flags (American Legion) in Hemingford or the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department.
