Update: John Kriz (1962 - 2025)

Services will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 1:00pm at the American Legion in Hemingford.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Leo John Kriz Jr. John, 63, passed from this life on September 24th, 2025.

John was born March 25, 1962, in Alliance Nebraska, to Leo and Barbara (Thornton) Kriz. John spent his early years on the family farm.

John a lifelong resident of Hemingford, Nebraska was known for his hard-working spirit and strong work ethic. Having held various positions, including roles in the Village of Hemingford, and Union Pacific Railroad where he recently served as a freight conductor.

John's community remembers him as a good friend, known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and gentle kind nature. John's time on earth is most significantly defined by his love of family, with his children representing his greatest accomplishments. And they remember his sincere heart, love and unwavering commitment. Margaret, John's wife, finds solace in their beautiful friendship, which blossomed into a love meant to last forever. She will cherish the dreams and memories and believes they will meet again.

John is preceded in death by parents Leo and Barbara Kriz and granddaughter, Maddie Dee Nunez.  John is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters, Kayla Marie Behm and husband Mark of Lincoln Nebraska, Emily Jensen and husband Michael of Council Bluffs, Iowa and son, Daniel Kriz of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Danielle McClure and husband Steven Zaremba of Oak Harbor, Washington, grandsons, Gary and Logan of Oak Harbor Washington, his sisters, Cindy Davies of Hemingford, Nebraska and Kathy McGowan and husband Jeff of Hot Springs, South Dakota, his brother Timothy Kriz and wife Laurel of Hemingford Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Hemingford Nebraska on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00pm. It was well-known by all who knew John how much he loved and was devoted to his favorite sports team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, so let's honor John and dress appropriately.
