South Fork Fire Monday morning update

By Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team 2

As on Sunday night at 8pm, firefighters continue to make progress, with containment increasing to 55%. Current acreage is 38,913 acres.

Crews now have line established around the entire fire perimeter utilizing a combination of dozer line, handline, roads, and previously burned areas. While this is a significant milestone, the fire is not fully contained, and today’s warmer, drier conditions that include Fire Weather Watch and Red Flag Conditions will test those containment lines.

As temperatures rise and humidity decreases, the public can expect to see interior smoke from unburned pockets of fuel and remaining hotspots within the fire perimeter.

Safety remains a top priority. Highway 20 continues to be an area of concern due to firefighter and equipment traffic, and the hazard trees, particularly in the cottonwood trees. Please remain alert and use caution when traveling near fire operations and avoid using pullouts where crews are working.
