Vernetta Jean Klein, 88, passed away at Heritage Estates in Gering, NE with her family by her side on Thursday, May 16, 2024. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held later this summer in Scottsbluff. Online condolences may be made by viewing Vernetta’s memorial page at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com. Vernetta was born in her grandmother’s home in Scottsbluff, NE to Edwin Kling, Sr, and Pauline (Zeiler) Kling. Vernetta was baptized, confirmed, taught Sunday School, and sang in the Zion Church Choir. She attended Roosevelt School until her family moved to a farm in the 9-mile community. Later the family moved to the Torrington, WY area for 2 years, returning to Scottsbluff area during the 1949 blizzard winter to a farm in Sunflower Community. She attended Sunflower School where she met the love of her life, Lester Klein in 1952. They were married March 8th, 1953, at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff where she was active in the church choir and the Dorcas Society.
Vernetta and Lester lived and farmed in the Victory Hill Community for many years. Vernetta was blessed with Roxanne Jean in 1957, LaWayne Edwin in 1958, and Myron Lester in 1963. Vernetta was a hard worker and always willing to help. She was a helping hand on the farm, but also did soldering for the Jet Plant, drove a bus and cooked for Victory Hill School. She enjoyed the fellowship with the Victory Hill Women’s club, their children’s school and sports activities & their 4-H projects.I
n 1988, Vernetta and Lester moved to Modesto CA where they attended & were employed by Big Valley Grace Church. Vernetta was in the Choir and Prayer Group and met many wonderful friends. Vernetta and Lester rededicated their lives to Christ at BVGC and were baptized along with two of their grandchildren on the same day. This is where Vernetta and Lester had a fresh look on life. In 2001, they retired from BVGC and returned to Scottsbluff. Just as they did in CA, they continued to enjoy their grandchildren’s schools’ activities & all their sporting events. In 2010, they returned to Sacramento where they spent the next 8 years enjoying their great grandchildren and more school and sporting events. In 2018 they returned to Scottsbluff and soon made Heritage Estates their new home. Vernetta loved sports and her favorite teams were the Nebraska Cornhuskers Football and Volleyball, Sacramento Kings Basketball, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Vernetta is survived by daughter Roxanne (Rick) Williams of Sacramento, CA; son LaWayne (Keeli) Klein of Scottsbluff, NE; and son Myron (Kim) Klein of Sioux Falls, SD. Grandchildren Dr. Andrew Williams and wife Laura, Allison Johnson and husband Matt, Alexis Brown and husband Jawan all of Sacramento; Kody Klein and wife Brittany of Mitchell; Korey Klein and wife Amber of Mitchell; Kasaundra Bethers and husband Beau of Torrington; Hanna and Dillon Snyder of Kimball; Meghan Anderson and husband John of Sioux Falls, SD; and Brett Klein and wife Kristen of Grand Island; Great Grandchildren include, Jacob, Benjamin and Christian Johnson; Mikah and Kaleb Williams; Jace Brown; Kallee, Shaylyn, Eva, Everlee and Finlee Klein; Kayden and Makenzie Klein; Westyn Bethers; Kasyn, Jessalynn and Leland Snyder; Sam and Jay Anderson; Dax, Addy and Jude Klein; Sister Patricia Dolberg and husband Allan, Sister-in-law Sandra Kling; Brother-in-law David Klein, Uncle Dick Yakel, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Vernetta was proceeded in death by her husband Lester, infant son, her parents Edwin and Pauline Kling, brothers Jack and Edwin Kling Jr.
