Gary Lee Mattley age 75 passed away May 14, 2023 at RWMC. He was born in Rapid City So.Dak. October 8, 1947 to Stanley Mattley and Florence (Hockenbary) Mattley. At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the family. Gary grew up in Scottsbluff and Mitchell area graduating from Sunflower high school in 1966. He enlisted in the US Navy and served on the aircraft carrier the USS Oriskany as an aircraft handler on the flight deck from 1966-1970. After getting out of the Navy he worked for Associated Grocers, Magnolia Mobile Home (34 years as leadman in plumbing), First Student, and Menard's. Gary married Ellen Dowell in 1977. They have two children Tara (Doug) Sheets, Dustin (Tiffany) Mattley, and two granddaughters Madison and Julianne Mattley. Gary also has a son Troy Short. Gary enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, riding horses, listening to music, camping, driving his mustang cars and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter, Tara, and son, Dustin, and their spouses; granddaughters, Maddy and Juju; sister, Margaret Knowles; brother-in-law, Don Dowell and wife Colleen; numerous nieces, nephews, and many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; and his 3 brothers, Dennis, Mick and Tim.
